Rabbitwrangler is a woman in her 40s from Pittsburgh whose mother died unexpectedly at the age of 58. Her mother always wanted to get a tattoo of small ladybug on her ankle but never got around to getting one. On the anniversary of her mother’s death, she decided to get a ladybug tattoo on her ankle that looks like it is “in flight” to honour her. She says, “I look at it as a reminder to seize the day and to free my fucks. It’s a gift to grow old, to inhabit this mortal coil.” When her mother died, she shares that she felt like she was wandering around without a map. In getting the tattoo she felt like she was “getting a set of directions to follow, however small. It was a like a bit of her guidance.” She told her mother’s sister and best friend about the tattoo, and they both got ladybug tattoos on their ankles too. “It helped us all feel close to her.”
